Just a few miles down the road from my stomping grounds is the quaint town of Zebulan, home of 1828 Coffee Co.

Named for the building that houses it, the coffee shop is in a restored building that was originally built in 1828 by Samuel Mitchell and is the oldest building in Zebulan. If you show up on a good day, you can meet Dan Dunnahoo, the retired art teacher who not only dreamed of restoring the building for a coffee shop but did the restoration. It’s a great place to stop and rest a while.

Upstairs you can relax in the open concept dining/sitting room. As soon as you walk in the door you will fall in love with this inviting space – at least I did! Enjoy work of local artists as you walk around. Order one of the signature drinks – the Zebulan Pike or the Samuel Mitchell. Of course, if you’re not that adventurous you can order your favorite latte. Not a coffee drinker? That’s okay, they have homemade lemonade and tea.

Downstairs, which was originally the stables, is a great space for family gatherings. Walk around and check out the photos that chronical the restoration. You can step outside to enjoy the back patio where they sometimes offer live music Be sure to visit their Facebook page to see what’s happening.
