I’m old enough to remember party lines and rotary phones attached to the wall. I remember how cool I thought it was when touch-tone phones came along. I had all my important phone numbers memorized. I even had a job for a few years where I had to carry a pager with me all the time. I hated that sound when then the pager would go off. Maybe that’s why when cell phones came out I was one of the last people to own one. As a matter fact, I didn’t own one until I had a job that required it.

I ended up loving that little flip phone – it was indestructible. I could drop it and it would “break” into three or four pieces. Every time I put it back together it still worked. When smart phones came along I was one of the last to jump on the bandwagon. Who needs anything more than a phone, right? Eventually, I traded up (again because my job required it).

Last night I left my phone at work…

Have you stopped to think how many things you rely on your phone for? Mine has become my lifeline to the world. I realized I don’t have a single clock in my house. I don’t know anyone’s phone number but it wouldn’t matter because I don’t have a landline. I don’t watch TV enough to bother with cable. Oh yeah, and my phone is my internet hot spot. I don’t mind being cut off from the world, but its usually on planned camping trips.

As soon as the sun came up, I was off to the shop to retrieve my lifeline. May you all never forget your phone (unless you want to of course).
