We all have the need to nest; it’s stronger in some than others. We have that need to create “head space”, that unique place where our brain is comfortable – comfortable to rest, comfortable to think, comfortable to create. A place that you can relax and just be you. When you move or life throws one of its big changes at you, the first instinct is to create or modify this space. A friend of mine is going through some changes right now and reminded me of this. I’ve moved a lot over the years and had some earthquakes shake up my life. I’ve become adept at this. For every move, every change, that space has changed dramatically.

I currently enjoy having a small place to live in as my home base. My living room is my “head space” now. I have a corner set up with my easel and art supplies for when I need to create, a corner by the couch with a table for my coffee and a reading lamp for when I want to travel to strange new worlds, and a place for my desk for when I want to work from home. The rest of the space is filled with my memory board, photos, and art, and a little entertainment area. I love to listen to music, and while I don’t watch TV, I do enjoy an occasional movie.

When I’m on the road tumbling, my Head Space surrounds me. All I have to do is look around at the beauty surrounding me to be inspired to create. A fire and cup of coffee will always make me feel right at home when I want to relax.

May you always have the “head space” that you need and deserve. If you don’t have it at the moment, take a weekend to tumble to a local state park and build you a fire.
